KOF XV unveils first tag-team trailer revealing Team Art of Fighting

After a steady stream of fifteen trailers showcasing individual characters, the marketing team behind The King of Fighters XV has released their first trailer featuring Ryo and Robert, the Invincible Dragon and the Raging Tiger, sharing the spotlight and rounding out Team Art of Fighting with the dapper Muay Thai practitioner King.

While fans welcomed the weekly solo reveals when it came to showcasing particularly popular or hotly anticipated characters, the pattern of the hype train running out of steam after one or more “off-weeks” where the trailer showcased less popular inclusions has been observed by fans and journalists alike and came to a peak when a previous reveal was delayed, seemingly to make way for a Samurai Shodown trailer.

As evidenced by the view count, there were far fewer folks interested in an entire trailer dedicated to Andy Bogard than there have been for the return of favorites Yashiro, Shermie, and Chris as the redesigned Team Orochi.

Speculation over the viability of continuing the individual-reveal strategy was fierce, many arguing that it was only a matter of time and engagement before SNK started showcasing series-staples together to avoid losing their audience due to a series of unsurprising reveals.

They appear to have been proven right, at least this week, and we’ll see whether this format is adopted for all future trailers or whether solo reveals are still on the table for new or popular characters as more are released.

KOFXV is slated for release later this year.
