Mortal Kombat X is the latest title to receive a throwback tournament in collaboration with Twitch Rivals, reviving the title for a no-holds-barred 32-player championship featuring the best of the best from the competitive scene after its official tournament presence was phased out to make way for Mortal Kombat 11.

Hosted by premiere FGC content creator and influencer Maximilian “MaximilianDood” Christiansen alongside veteran casters and Mortal Kombat community figureheads Ryan “Ketchup” and Jake “Mustard” Neal, the online tournament is adopting the same invitational format as the previous events for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Killer Instinct, with 31 players representing the apex predators of the competitive scene already set including Jarrad "NinjaKilla" Gooden, Carl "Perfect Legend" White, and of course five-time EVO champion Dominique 'SonicFox' McLean.

As with the past Rivals tournaments, the 32nd slot is up for grabs in an open qualifier to be hosted on May 22nd hosted by Ryan “MrAquaman” Kablik on his Kolosseum Twitch channel, with the winner of the free-for-all moving on to compete in the main event on May 24th.

Additionally, the tournament will feature a sneak preview of the just-announced upcoming Mortal Kombat X mini-documentary chronicling the challenges and risks Netherrealm Studios faced in executing the development of what would come to be regarded as the pinnacle of the Mortal Kombat franchise and truly solidify the developer's reputation on the world stage, produced in cooperation with NRS and series creator Ed Boon himself, who features in multiple interviews throughout the production.

Being the third event in what is quickly becoming a successful series of tournaments, viewers can look forward to an excellently produced showcase of the highest-level of Mortal Kombat play around, supported by Parsec for the most stable netplay available and coupled with expert commentary coming from the best hosts in the business.

Registration for the Open Qualifiers can be found below and streams live on Twitch on May 22nd at 2pm PT, with the main event streaming May 24th at 12pm PT.
